Anthracite Unite is a multi-racial / ethnic collective of working class scholars, artists, and organizers from Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Coal Region.
We’re focused on educating and empowering members of our community and building class unity despite our differences.
In the past, profit-hungry coal barons ruthlessly exploited the miners of our region and pitted them against one another by stirring up ethnic tension. Coal is no longer king, but this pattern persists: Power remains in the hands of a few, we still suffer economically, and anti-immigrant sentiment has resurged.
With an approach that is unapologetically anti-racist and pro-worker, we’re building the working class power necessary to stand up to modern-day coal barons:
We’re lifting up those episodes from our past where working class people came together and won; we’re collectively studying the powerful forces that keep so many of us down; we’re using the transcendent power of art to identify our common experiences; and we’re participating in collective action with the understanding that the process can be as important as the product.
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize the administrative capacity emerging projects need, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing.
