In 2017, Media Mobilizing Project helped cohere a coalition of over 30 community organizations that set a platform for what a progressive district attorney could accomplish if accountable to our communities and a vision of ending mass incarceration. Members of this group have worked across the criminal legal system and in our communities to decarcerate our jails by almost half and to help enact policies that have led to more justice in our communities.
The coalition no longer meets, but many working groups from the coalition have marked victories, including a small reduction in the use of cash bail, increased commutations and resentencings, and ending the cooperation between ICE and our police department.
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize the administrative capacity emerging projects need, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing.
