Movement Alliance Project teamed up with MediaJustice to create Mapping Pretrial Injustice. As cities and states across the country transform their pretrial decision-making systems, many are implementing pretrial risk assessment algorithms to inform high-stakes decisions on who gets freedom and who stays supervised or locked up before their trials. Our website serves as a tool for organizers fighting for pretrial decarceration in their communities, particularly around the use of these algorithms.
Mapping Pretrial Injustice includes basics on how these risk assessments are used in pretrial decision-making, details our research on tools and maps how they are used in hundreds of jurisdictions across the country, and challenges the notion that risk assessments offer real solutions to pretrial incarceration.
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize the administrative capacity emerging projects need, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing.
