As a part of our broader Movement Collaborations work, Shift The Narrative is an alliance to build the power communities need to take back control of the narrative on violence and policing in our neighborhoods.
Communities struggling against violence have demanded community-based solutions and systems that go beyond policing. The Shift The Narrative Project is building community narrative power to lift up those solutions, to challenge how newspapers cover violence, police, and mass incarceration, and to center our communities’ needs in the story of what “public safety” means.
Shift The Narrative Project is a collaboration between movement and community leaders including Movement Alliance Project, Free Press, MIC Center, Reclaim PHL, and Youth Arts and Self-Empowerment Project (YASP).
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize the administrative capacity emerging projects need, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing.
